Bob Howard Nissan invites you to find out the reason why your Nissan battery light came on.
If the battery indicator in your vehicle comes on when you start your car, that is a standard system test. If the car battery light stays on after a few moments, then there’s an issue. If you’re having issues with the battery, you may find that the headlights are getting dim, the radio might not turn on, and your windows are moving slower. If you notice any of these things happening, you really need to get to your destination or bring it to us immediately because your car is likely in imminent danger of being inoperable. If neither destination is available, find a safe place to stop and park.
Like all things car-related, how long you can drive with the car battery light on really depends on a lot of factors. If the car battery light just came on, you can do things like switching off all accessories such as the radio or air conditioning and removing any phones that may be connected to USB slots. This can help extend the remaining battery life, but you should get here or head back home. Keep in mind that you should NOT shut off the engine because a dying battery may not have the power to restart your engine.
The car battery light might come on for several reasons, but generally, the reasons are:
Your car works most efficiently when it has a fully-charged car battery. Any of these problems will make it extremely difficult for your battery to get charged. If it’s not fixed immediately, it can leave you stranded.
If there is a safe place to pull over, at the very least, you can open the hood and examine your battery for a loose connection or oxidation on the battery. Besides those quick looks, the best way to get the battery light off is to bring it to our service center. Our knowledgeable technicians have the tools and skills to determine the problem. They will test everything from looking at your alternator to your battery health and then recommend the correct course of action to fix your car.
